ACQUISITION, RETENTION, AND RETRAINING: EFFECTS OF HIGH AND LOW FIDELITY IN TRAINING DEVICES.

Abstract

The report describes a series of studies on the effects of the degree of fidelity of a training device on the acquisition, retention, and retraining of the ability to perform a procedural task. Subjects were trained to perform a procedural task on one of three devices, differing in fidelity: (a) a functioning duplicate of the tactical equipment; (b) a duplicate of the tactical equipment that did not function; and (c) a full size artist's representation.
