A STUDY OF THE THERMAL STABILITY OF SEVERAL NEW POLYBENZIMIDAZOLES WHICH CONTAIN O, P, AND B IN THEIR CHAINS, AND ALSO A STUDY OF MIXED POLYAMICO- AND POLYESTERO-BENZIMIDAZOLES BY DIFFERENTIAL THERMAL ANALYSIS,

Abstract

The authors conclude that as a result of the thermogravimetric investigations of a number of polybenzimidazoles which have been performed, polybenzimidazoles which contain atoms of phosphorus, boron, oxygen and the -CH2- groups in their chain are very heat-resistant substances, stable during heating in nitrogen and in air up to 50450-500C. The thermal stability of mixed polyamidobenzimidazoles and polyester benzimidazoles has been studied, and it has been established that these polymers have a somewhat lower thermal stability than corresponding aromatic homopolybenzimidazoles.
