THE MECHANISM OF THE STIMULATING EFFECT OF FREUND'S INCOMPLETE ADJUVANT ON ANTIBODY FORMATION,

Abstract

The influence of Freund's incomplete adjuvant on the intensity of antibody formation has been shown to depend both on the characteristics of the antigen, and on its immunizing dose. The greatest stimulating effect on antibody formation upon a single immunization with whooping cough vaccine, is obtained after preliminary injection of Freund's incomplete adjuvant. With typhoid vaccine, the greatest effect was obtained with simultaneous injection of adjuvant and vaccine. Preliminary application of adjuvant does not lead to increased stimulation of antibody formation. Depositing of corpuscular antigens by the adjuvant is not necessary for stimulation of immunogenesis.
