THE HYDROMECHANICAL EXTRUSION OF THIN-WALLED TUBES,

Abstract

A nonuniform flow of metal takes place in hydrostatic extrusion of thin-wall tubes. One method of eliminating nonuniform metal flow is extrusion by direct action of a dummy block on the end of the billet, while its sides are supported by a highly compressed fluid. This process is called 'hydromechanical' extrusion to distinguish it from purely hydrostatic extrusion. (Author)
