RESEARCH DIRECTED TOWARD A LUNAR PHYSIOGRAPHIC STUDY.

Abstract

Relative lunar altitude research and selenodetic measures performed under this contract are published in LPL Comm. 72, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78; and yet to be published in 127, 128, and 129. A direction-cosine method has been developed and comparator measures have been performed to determine relative lunar altitudes from shadow measured on earth-based lunar photographs. Final refraction-free photographic coordinates have been determined for coordinate measures on 25 Yerkes lunar star-trailed photographs. An oscillating plate-holder device has been developed for a better determination of effective focal length calibration for selenodetic test plates (LPL Comm. 73). The provided Mann Comparator has been impersonalized to increase the rapidity of selenodetic measures. The completion and distribution of the Consolidated Lunar Atlas and its general acceptance by lunar researchers has proven to be a significant contribution under this contract. (Author)
