1.5 METER APERTURE PRECISION ON-AXIS LIGHT GATHERER.

Abstract

Research directed toward the design, fabrication, and partial testing of optics for future selenodetic-optical-ranging investigations, has resulted in a 60-inch special-purpose telescope and related housing, now installed at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, Catalina Observatory, Site II. The successful use of an aluminum alloy (Tenzalloy) for the optics of this instrument continues to advance the current technology of metal mirrors for special astronomic applications. The improved design of this special-purpose telescope over earlier models still in use at the Observatory, increased its efficiency and ease of operation during tests and observing programs.
