POWER ACCELERATOR SYSTEMS FOR AXIAL IMPACT STUDIES.

Abstract

Report describes 16 mm, 19 mm, and 50 mm powder gun systems used to accelerate slender cylindrical specimens to velocities of several thousand feet per second for axial impact with identical target specimens. The accelerators described are fixed charge powder guns with long smoothbore vented barrels, mounted for free recoil and with integral target chambers and catches. The systems operate with vacuum and create constant velocity impact conditions. (Author)
