PROPERTIES OF WATER DYNAMICS IN THE SOUTHEASTERN BLACK SEA AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHIC ELEMENTS (Osobennosti Dinamiki Vod Yugo-Vostochoi Chasti Chernogo Morya i Raspredelenie Okeanograficheskikh Elementov),

Abstract

On the basis of the survey made in the SE Black Sea in August 1962, it was possible to refine the existing data on the water dynamics in this area and to add new data. This is especially applicable to the vertical water structure in the upper 500m layer of the SE Black Sea, where the water circulation is complex, consisting of several clockwise and counterclockwise currents. The properties of water dynamics determined the corresponding distribution of oceanographic features in the SE Black Sea. The counterclockwise areas have more favorable living conditions, for phytoplankton than the clockwise areas (with regard to dynamic, chemical, and thermal situations). The greatest phytoplankton concentration in the open parts of the SE Black Sea was observed in the areas where the clockwise water movement interacts with the counterclockwise water movement and in the areas where the counterclockwise water movement exists.
