INTENSITY OF FEEDING OF THE BLACK SEA ANCHOVY IN CONNECTION WITH FOOD RESOURCES OF THE WATER BASIN (Intensivnost Pitaniya Chernomorskoi Khamsy v Zavisimosti ot Sostoyaniya Kormovoi Bazy Vodoema),

Abstract

In 1957-1958 collections were made of quite a number of comprehensive materials which characterized the feeding and distribution of anchovy in conjunction with qualitative and quantitative composition of food plankton in coastal and pelagic parts of the sea, including the Anatolian coast. The paper emphasizes the analysis of data that were collected in 1958 when one could observe a considerable displacement of the peaks of seasonal development of edible plankton and a redistribution of feeding grounds in the area inhabited by anchovy. This affected the distribution of the fish, the effect of its reproduction, linear and weight increments and 'fatness'. (Author)
