STRESSES IN CANTILEVER PLATES.

Abstract

A numerical method is presented for determining the bending stresses in elastic cantilever plates. Southwell's formulation of the classical small deflection plate theory is employed. The method is applied to obtain numerical solutions for rectangular and swept back plates subjected to a variety of surface and edge loads. Boundary layer effects are observed for the uniformly loaded rectangular plates as the length of the plate decreases. The effects of a load concentration and sweep back are observed and summarized in the form of stress concentration factors. (Author)
