COMPUTERS AND PRIVACY IN SOCIAL SCIENCE DATA ARCHIVES,

Abstract

This paper is a revised version of the talk which introduced the Panel on Privacy at the Council for Social Science Data Archives (CSSDA) 1968 Annual Conference. A framework for inquiry into issues of computers and privacy is reviewed and categories of concern are suggested. Some criteria for evaluation of the use of archives, a brief inventory of protective measures, standards, and limitations of use are summarized. Finally, some concepts, examples, and programs that relate to Social Science Data Archives (SSDA) and manipulation of aggregate data are discussed. (Author)
