DISPERSION CORRECTION IN THE DEBYE THEORY OF HEAT CAPACITY OF A SOLID,

Abstract

Equations are developed which recognize the inelasticity of the longitudinal and transverse vibrations in the lattice. The resultant expression for the characteristic temp. theta is considerably more complex than the simple Debye expression, and comprises temperature-dependent terms. Such terms are necessary to account for temperature-dependence of the characteristic temp. previously observed for a number of metals including W for which a minimum is observed.
