THE LONGITUDINAL STATIC STABILITY OF AIRCRAFT WITH TWO LIFTING WINGS,
Abstract
A study is made of the static stability of aircraft with two lifting wings, front and rear (a 'tandem' system), spaced at a certain distance determined by the length of the aircraft fuselage. In the general case, wings may have different angles of attack, relative aspect ratio, chords, and relative distances from the ground. The combination of these elements and the position of the center of gravity to the length of aircraft are determined to insure the derivation of maximum restoring moments in the static deviation of the aircraft from the calculated position at a small angle.
