A SYSTEM OF MARKOV CHAINS WITH RANDOM LIFE TIMES.

Abstract

Limiting properties of random variables associated with a system of random processes are investigated. Particles enter the system at integer times in random (Poisson) numbers, and at subsequent integer times are allowed to move independently according to a 2 dimensional random process, Markov in one dimension. Deaths of particles occur randomly. The random variables investigated are A sub n (B*), the number of particles in a finite set of states B* at time n and M sub n (B*;r), the number which have visited B* exactly r times by time n.
