ON BIMOLECULAR CHEMICAL REACTIONS IN IMPERFECT GASES.

Abstract

The initial density dependence of the rate of a bimolecular chemical reaction in a mixture of imperfect gases is derived by the use of a simple physical cluster model. This result is compared with two forms of the activated complex theory; in one (denoted ACT(c)), the rate is assumed proportional to the concentration of the activated complex, and in the other (ACT(a)), proportional to the activity of the activated complex. In certain plausible limits, agreement is obtained between the cluster model and ACT(c). (Author)
