A STUDY OF TWO FREQUENCY CAPTURE EFFECTS ON ILS RECEIVERS.
Abstract
The specific work was the combined theoretical and experimental study of the response of navigational receivers in two-frequency instrument landing systems. The purpose was to obtain factual understanding of reported malfunctions that could not be pinpointed at the time: whether caused by basic defects in the space modulation produced by the two-frequency ILS ground Station, incompatibility between ground and airborne equipment, or malfunction concentrated in the receiving equipment. A secondary objective was to obtain greater understanding of capture effect as it applies to ILS and to produce exact, analytical procedures for conducting the investigation, rather than build from the many approximations developed from preceding studies.
