Abstract

This paper deals with the work done toward establishing a leveling net of the USSR. The first catalog of elevations related to the mean Baltic Sea-Black Sea level was published in 1894. Tremendous work on the creation of the main elevation base has been done. The first and second order levelling lines, referred to a single system of elevations, are now located over the entire USSR and form a net securing all the current demands of the USSR national economy and various scientific investigations.
