ON THE SPEEDY COMPUTATION OF TERRAIN CORRECTIONS DURING GRAVIMETER OBSERVATIONS (Ob Uskorennom Vychislenii Popravki za Relef pri Nablyudeniyakh s Gravimetrom),

Abstract

The paper is a discussion of the method used to quickly compute terrain corrections during gravimeter observations. Different relief sections around the observation point can be subdivided into three zones. The near zone, within which the earth's surface can in many cases be approximated by a polyhedral angle or by an inclined plane. The correction for the relief of this zone depends only on the horizontal position of the point. In the middle zone the value of the correction depends both on the horizontal position of the point and on its absolute elevation. In the more distant zone the value of the correction for relief is practically independent of the horizontal position of the gravimetric point, but depends on its elevation. The computation method and graph method used to compute terrain corrections are explained, with charts showing obtained results.
