AN INVESTIGATION OF THE HIGH PRESSURE ELECTRODELESS ARC IN AIR.

Abstract

The equation of energy balance for the high pressure electrodeless arc in air is numerically integrated and agreement with the Thomason Eddy Current theory is found. Scaling laws are derived for purposes of engineering analysis and design. Conceptual designs for high pressure electrodeless and DC arc heaters are compared at the fifty megawatt level in a flowing plasma system. The electrodeless technique is found to be somewhat more efficient than the DC technique in this comparison. (Author)
