THE CAL SHOCK-TUBE-DRIVEN MOLECULAR BEAM: ENGINEERING DETAILS AND SURVEY DATA.

Abstract

The design considerations, engineering details, and beam survey data relevant to a shock-tube-driven molecular beam are presented in detail in this report. The survey data are for an N2 beam with a kinetic energy per molecule of 1.3 ev, and two Ar beams of 1.4 and 2.2 ev. The spreading angles of these beams are of the order of 1 degree. Sufficient engineering details are presented to show how all the elements of the apparatus, including a target beam, function and how they are synchronized with the firing of the shock tube.
