QUANTUM MECHANICAL STUDY OF PLASMAS.

Abstract

The report consists of three independent chapters. Each chapter gives the results of investigation into one area of the problem of quantum effects in many-particle systems. Chapter I reports the discovery of a method of exact solution of a class of Schroedinger equations which describe the response of a spin system to an oscillating magnetic field. Chapter II reports the progress made towards the development of an improved statistical model for electrons in heavy atoms. Chapter III is concerned with boundary effects such as the interaction of longitudinal and transverse waves at a sharp boundary in an electron gas such as occurs at a metallic surface, or density discontinuity in a hot plasma.
