A SNOBOL/4-LIKE PATTERN MATCHING SCHEME AND ITS USE IN A SYNTAX-DIRECTED TRANSLATOR.

Abstract

The report describes a pattern matching scheme which is modelled after SNOBOL/4. It is implemented in the Bair's GAIN system, which in turn is implemented on the IBM 7040. The whole system involves describing and implementing a language for describing patterns, where patterns, themselves, are descriptions of classes of strings. The main application of the pattern matching scheme involves the addition of a facility for using the parses to translate the input string into output string. (Author)
