SHARK ATTACK FILE - DATA ASSIMILATION PROGRAM.

Abstract

This constitutes the final report for this project in fulfillment of an agreement dated 26 July 1968 between Mote Marine Laboratory, 9501 Blind Pass Road, Sarasota, Florida, hereinafter referred to as MML, and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D. C. 20560. For approximately nine years the Smithsonian Institution, with funds supplied by the United States Navy, gathered data on shark attacks which occurred from time to time in various parts of the world. Dr. Leonard P. Schultz of the Smithsonian's Department of Vertebrate Zoology provided scientific guidance as Principal Investigator of this project during this entire period. Information was accumulated on approximately 1500 shark attacks, ranging in content from single newspaper accounts to detailed scientific observations. (Author)
