TARGET DETECTION PERFORMANCE WHEN MONITORING RADAR AND SONAR PPI DISPLAYS CONCURRENTLY.
Abstract
Target detection performance was determined for a sonar PPI display, for a radar PPI display, and for both when mounted adjacently and monitored concurrently. It was found that a penalty is paid in detection performance when the displays are monitored concurrently. This penalty is most marked in the first quarter of a 72-minute watch; in the last three quarters of such a watch the penalty is considerably smaller. (Author)
