PLANE PROBLEMS OF LINEAR VISCOELASTICITY,

Abstract

The basic formulae and problems of the plane theory of linear viscoelasticity are formulated in relation to those of elasticity, and it is shown that the solutions of many of the corresponding problems of the two theories are interconnected through well-defined ordinary differential equations in time. Some problems of viscoelasticity will be presented for which this rule does not apply, and the solution of which may be considered a major challenge of the mathematical theory of viscoelasticity.
