PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF STUDY OF HIGH TEMPERATURE ADHESIVE ACTION AND FRICTION OF OXIDES AND HIGH MELTING METALS WITH OXIDES IN A VACUUM AND IN GAS MEDIA,

Abstract

Friction measurements were made on a specially constructed apparatus; the materials studied were molybdenum, iron, cobalt, aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide, and cerium oxide. The coefficient of adhesion is given as a function of the relative temperature (ratio of test temperature to the melting temperature of the oxide) for the following systems: MgO-MgO, CeO2-CeO2, Al2O3-Al2O3, Fe-Al2O3, Mo-Al2O3, and Co-MgO.
