ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF AUTOFRETTAGE ON THE FATIGUE LIFE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 175MM M113 GUN TUBE.

Abstract

The fatigue life characteristics of the 175mm M113 gun tube, which was fabricated with 170-190 ksi yield strength material, have presented problems of considerable concern. The advantages to be gained by use of a lower strength material and autofrettage, shown by prior fatigue life investigation of pressurized thick wall tubes, are confirmed in respect to this tube in this investigation.
