A METHOD OF DETERMINING THE RESPONSIVE AREAS OF OPTICAL DETECTORS,

Abstract

A method of quickly determining the configuration of the responsive areas of optical detectors is described. Synchronized rasters areg generated on two oscilloscopes. The screen of one oscilloscope is imaged by a lens onto the plane of the detector, whose electrical output varies as the scan progresses across the sensitive surface. The detector signal is amplified and used to intensity modulate the beam of the other oscilloscope. Thus, a picture of the detector's spatial response is generated. Photographs of three sample detectors are presented. A brief discussion of some of the optical and electrical factors affecting the results are included. (Author)
