DIFFUSION OF RESONANCE EXCITATION THROUGH A ONE-DIMENSIONAL GAS.

Abstract

The equation to express the rate at which resonance excitation diffuses through a one-dimensional gas is derived. A numerical algorithm for this equation is made and numerical results are displayed in graphic form to show the relative effects of two terms - the diffusion term and the translational term. In addition, figures are presented to show the effect of translational motion on the spectral distribution of escaping radiation and how this distribution of escaping radiation and how this distribution changes with time.
