THE CONSTRUCTION OF GENERATRICES FOR PRESSURE VESSEL DOME CLOSURES WITH VARIABLE HOOP TO MERIDIONAL FORCE RATIOS,

Abstract

Generatrices have been developed to vary the hoop and meridional forces in a pressurized membrane shell. Generatrix coordinates are shown for constant (0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, 1.2) or varying force ratios. Possible applications of this study include: (1) bulkhead designs to reduce vehicle length and weight, (2) shapes for filament-wound end closures, and (3) shapes to take advantage of non-isotropic materials. Domes should be constructed and tested for verification. (Author)
