A NOTE ON THE ORTHOGONAL FORCE COMPONENT IN ATMOSPHERIC REENTRY,

Abstract

In the paper, attention is given to the influence of the transverse aerodynamic force component which might be encountered by space vehicles during reentry. The general effects of small orthogonal perturbations were first investigated by Newton, and it is shown that qualitatively the behavior proves to be essentially the same for large aerodynamically induced forces.
