THE DYNAMICS OF SUPERCIRCULAR MULTIPLE-PASS ATMOSPHERIC BRAKING,
Abstract
Consideration is given to subparabolic and hyperbolic entry without lift. Single-pass impact trajectories are described. A minimization of eccentricity during passage is shown to be significant and the concept of instantaneous circularization is elaborated. A quantitative description of multiple-pass impact is given in a simple energy-momentum plot.
