RESISTANCE STUDIES OF A SHIP MODEL WITH BOUNDARY-LAYER SUCTION,

Abstract

The report presents the results of an analysis of data obtained by the application of suction to the boundary layer of a ship model, designed to be of minimum resistance for a Froude number. The model had previously been tested in towing tanks, and also an analysis of the wave resistance had been made using the wave-pattern measurements obtained from sterophotographs. The viscous resistance can be made to decrease by the application of suction to a value lower than the value given by ITTC 57 and Schoenherr curves. (Author)
