FLEXURAL VIBRATIONS IN UNIFORM BEAM-COLUMNS ACCORDING TO THE MODIFIED TIMOSHENKO THEORY,

Abstract

The report concerns the analytical determination of the transient flexural vibrations of beams subjected to axial forces. Previous studies of this subject have employed both the modified Bernoulli-Euler theory and the Timoshenko theory. However, these studies have not adequately accounted for secondary effects which can affect the vibrational response. This study, employing the modified Timoshenko theory, is intended to determine the flexural vibrations in a uniform beam, accounting for the secondary effects not covered previously. The report gives general solutions of both free and forced vibrations of beams subjected to axial loads, a general solution for the case of a simply supported beam, and solutions for the case of vibrations in an infinite beam.
