THE MOBILITY AND TRANSPORTATION RESOURCES ALLOCATION (MARTA) MODEL: A LARGE-SCALE LINEAR PROGRAMMING MODEL TO INVESTIGATE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS,

Abstract

This paper presents a brief description of the Mobility and Transportation Resources Allocation (MATRA) Model. MATRA is a 2500-constraint linear programming formulation of the DOD transportation problem for a set of limited nonnuclear contingencies and five peacetime world areas. The model has been used since June 1967 to generate data for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Analysis. Typical solutions are included, with an indication of problem areas and future development of the model. (Author)
