A SURVEY OF FIVE ON-LINE RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS

Abstract

Panel 2 of the Committee on Scientific and Technical Information (COSATI) of the Federal Council for Science and Technology has inventoried government-sponsored work-in-progress in the area of information sciences and technology. The report is a survey of the capabilities of off-the-shelf interactive data handling systems that could be used to access the COSATI inventory on-line. Described in terms of acceptability, effectiveness, performance, and availability, these systems are Data Corporation's Data Central, Computer Corporation of America's 103, Lockheed Research Corporation's DIALOG, and System Development Corporation's LUCID and TDMS.
