ON THE ASYMPTOTIC FORM OF THE STREAM FUNCTION FOR THE FLOW OF AN OSEEN-LIKE FLUID PAST A PARABOLOID OF REVOLUTION.

Abstract

The Oseen solution for the axisymmetric flow of a viscous fluid past a paraboloid of revolution fixed in a uniform stream is adopted as the first step of an iteration procedure for the discussion of the behavior of the flow field at large distances from the solid body. By adopting a unique method of integration of the iterated equations of motion, successive approximations of the stream function are carried through three steps. One of the important results of the calculations is that the stream function defining the displacement surface can be very closely approximated in a simple closed form. (Author)
