DETAILED TEMPERATURE AND CURRENT DATA SECTIONS IN AND NEAR THE KUROSHIO CURRENT. AN OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA REPORT FOR THE COOPERATIVE STUDY OF THE KUROSHIO AND ADJACENT REGIONS (CSK).

Abstract

As part of the United States effort in the UNESCO-sponsored Cooperative Study of the Kuroshio and Adjacent Regions (CSK), the Marine Environment Division, Ocean Sciences Department, collected data on temperature structure in the Kuroshio Current. In addition, the relative current at four levels and to a depth of 240 meters is superimposed on the isotherm sections. The purpose of this cruise was to collect nearly continuous temperature-structure data in and adjacent to the Kuroshio Current. It was hoped that the data could be employed in estimating the size of the larger, turbulent eddies in the Kuroshio and would aid in understanding the mixing processes taking place. (Author)
