THE THERMAL EXPANSION OF IONIC CRYSTALS,

Abstract

From the developed concepts, formulas are derived for calculating coefficients for the thermal expansion of ionic crystals. Regularities in the change of these quantities with changing temperature and basic characteristics of the ions comprising the crystal are noted. The limits of applicability of the proposed equation were established, and the quantitative agreement between the calculated and experimental data is shown for compounds with type MX monatomic ions.
