STUDY OF TRANSIENT PHENOMENA IN LOW PRESSURE GAS DISCHARGE PLASMAS.

Abstract

The transconductance between grid assemblies having at least one grid on rf ground was calculated. These arrangements, in contrast to the floating grid assembly described in Quarterly Status Reports 1 and 4, are not susceptable to noise. Simple examples illustrate the capacitive coupling effect and the rf ground loop effect. These effects must either be eliminated or taken into account in any Landau wave experiment. Four experimentally feasible grid arrangements are evaluated in order to determine the scheme which most clearly exposes the basic features of Landau waves. (Author)
