STUDIES OF RESONANT STATES OF ELEMENTARY PARTICLES AND HYPERNUCLEI.

Abstract

The results of a resonance formation experiment in the negative kaon-proton system between 800 and 1200 Mev/c lab. momentum are summarized. A study of antikaon-N yields antikaon-N has provided evidence for the formation of at least five resonant states in this interval, and determination at their quantum numbers. A new and precise determination of the decay branching fractions of lambda hyperon (1520) has been performed. A phenomenological model combining diffractive and resonant amplitudes has been developed to explain the behaviour of the negative kaon-proton yields negative kaon-proton differential cross sections in the region investigated. The momentum dependence of the slope of the forward exponential peak in several meson-baryon elastic scattering processes has been studied and interpreted.
