ELECTRON PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE MEASUREMENTS ON POTASSIUM TANTALATE.

Abstract

Electron spin resonance measurements were made on single crystals of iron doped potassium tantalate at frequencies between 35 and 65 GHz at magnetic fields of up to 17 Kilogauss and at room temperature as well as that of liquid nitrogen and of liquid helium. Three spectra were identified and their spin Hamiltonian parameters were determined. Two of the spectra discussed are associated with an Fe(3+) ion occupying the Ta(5+) (orB) site in the crystal in either a tetragonal (axial) crystal field environment or in a cubic crystal field environment. The cubic spectrum associated with the Fe(3+) in the B site had been previously observed. Our measurements of the spin Hamiltonian parameter were consistant with those made previously. In addition we determined that 'a' is positive. (Author)
