RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RESEARCH ON CHINA.
Abstract
The paper discusses China in the perspective of the remaining years of this century. The hypotheses advanced in this study are extrapolated from, and based on, the historically validated movement of other countries from positions approximately akin to that now occupied by Maoist China toward technological urbanization. The report includes evaluations of the major forces influencing this pattern of progress from agrarian nation states dependent on older land revenue bases toward economies dependent on technology and trade, and how these same forces affect China. It discusses and evaluates the aims and goals of the leaders, both for themselves and their countries, with a parallel appraisal of Mao; population growths and declines, and the causes and effects of such demographic changes; economic structures and goals; interactions between states, particularly as determined by the degree of nuclear sophistication, and how these affect China; and the technological progress achieved by various countries as compared with that of Maoist China.
