CHARGE-CONTROLLED STORAGE DISPLAY PANEL.
Abstract
A number of the image panel's operating characteristics were investigated. A method for writing on the panel with the image of a cathode ray tube oscilloscope trace was tested. The panel's ability to store both very short, high-intensity images and very long, low-intensity images was also evaluted. Further investigations were made of the effects of humidity on the panel and methods to protect the panel from these effects. It was shown that the contrast of images that are stored on a panel which is operated in room light can be enhanced by use of a circular polarizing filter in front of the panel. Permanent copies of stored images were made on a variety of photo-sensitive papers by a contact printing process. Improved techniques for fabricating photoconductively-charged image panels were developed. Fabrication of plastic substrate panels was continued, with emphasis on large-area (1 x 2 ft) panels.
