ON THE PROBLEM OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN RECTILINEAR CRACKS OF A GIVEN ORIENTATION,

Abstract

The character of the interaction of rectilinear cracks of one and the same orientation is investigated. An analysis is made of the limit loads for cracks located along a given straight line, and an orientation evaluation is given of mutual strengthening of two linear parallel cracks. On the basis of an approximate solution of the problem of the limiting equilibrium of a plate, weakened by an infinite series of parallel 'shifted' cracks of equal length, there are established some new qualitative and quantitative peculiarities of mutual influence in systems consisting of rectilinear cracks of a given orientation.
