CERTAIN FEATURES OF WIND CONDITIONS IN THE SOUTHEAST OF WESTERN SIBERIA

Abstract

An analysis is made of the distribution of prevailing wind directions, average wind speeds, and the change with altitude of wind speeds in the boundary layer of the atmosphere over the southeastern part of West Siberia. The principal purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of station sites on meteorological element measurements. The basic data consisted of average wind speeds and frequencies of various wind directions measured at 107 weather stations and at 20-40 other stations at which more complex characteristics were machine-computed. The data were collected mostly in the 1936-1960 period with observations made every four hours. Much of value in this paper is contained in the numerous tables and figures.
