LIPID PEROXIDATION AND BLOOD STORAGE.

Abstract

These studies performed during the first year of grant support investigated several aspects of the erythrocyte membrane in relation to blood storage. It was found that there is a slight decline of cholesterol but little change in the carbohydrate or protein components. The serum tocopherol level can be raised by the ingestion of the vitamin prior to blood donation. The present proposal will extend these observations and undertake in vivo survival studies. (Author)
