MODERNIZATION OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE ZIL-130 TRUCK,
Abstract
Since the ZIL-30 truck has been rolling off the assembly line, changes have been effected in its electrical equipment, with a view to improving, inter alia, the ignition system, the starter, and headlight performance. The new ignition system--the contact-transistor ignition system--is primarily distinguished from other hitherto employed systems by the fact that the semiconductor element turns the current on or off at the primary winding of the coil. Tests show that the circuit breaker contacts of the new ignition system last for as long at 150,000-200,000 kilometers, compared with the 30,000-40,000 kilometers of the battery ignition system. As to the starter, the changes have facilitated assembly and disassembly for technical maintenance, and the service provided by the altered started has been extended to 150,000 kilometers (ST 130 starter). Distance is expected to finally reach 225,000 kilometers. Alterations in the headlight and accessory systems have been directed at improving road visibility, cutting unnecessary diffusion, and simplifying hookup arrangements between truck and trailer. This has resulted in a more reliable performance of headlights, direction signals, and brake indicators.
