CONSTRAINTS ON DESIRABLE ACTIVITIES: EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS.

Abstract

The study examines those factors which are most effective in preventing an individual from engaging in some behavior which he views as being desirable but in which he has never engaged. This was a pilot study for one to be carried out in another cultural setting as well as part of a program to analyze social change. Happy individuals were more constrained by environmental factors, such as lack of an accessable location to engage in the behavior, while unhappy individuals were more restricted by potential embarrassment.
