CALORIMETER FOR MEASURING THE STRENGTH OF AN ABSORBED DOSE OF GAMMA RADIATION,

Abstract

The determination of the degree at which ionizing radiations affect objects during radiobiological and radiation-chemical investigations, in medicine, etc., requires the knowledge of the absorbed dose. The calorimetric method is a direct method of determining the absorbed dose. In a case where an insignificant part of the radiation-energy absorbed by a specimen of some substance is spent for chemical transformations while the main part of the energy is converted into heat, the rise in temperature of the specimen will make it possible to determine the absorbed dose.
